Here are 5 ways you can improve your emotional intelligence at work…

  1. Stay calm in stressful situations. Stress management is important because stressful situations at work more often than not bring out the worst in people both mentally by heightening irritability, frustration and reducing the ability to think straight and also physically by raising blood pressure levels and causing tiredness. Which means to need to be very alert to the causes of these symptoms and immediately how to quickly put in place strategy to prevent stress from happening which means….
  2. Immediately eliminating negative thoughts that cause emotions when they starts entering into your mind. So, practice being aware of your negative emotions and watch triggers them such as being annoyed, angry, worrying, or feeling hopelessness, helplessness. Firstly, recognise the emotion for what it is and where it is coming from like the same type of thinking that’s causing it or another person triggering your negative feelings. Then pause and tell yourself that these are emotions being set of in your brain and that you have the mental thinking skills to not only control feelings  but also flip them into different ways of thinking to take positive action.   4. Be assertive and practice expressing controlled thoughts when the circumstances dictate you do so. Realise that by storing up negative thoughts will cause difficulties in the long run and that its best to learn how to calmly express your feelings in a manner that won’t hurt others.
